Kai Kunkel

Kai is a mom of a 15 and 12 year old, she leads Social Emotional Learning work in Seattle Public Schools, has taught Great Conversations classes at Seattle Children’s, is a certified Positive Discipline parent educator, and worked for years as a sexuality educator with Planned Parenthood. She chose to open a home childcare when she had kids to create a community of children at home.

At the heart of Kai’s work is a belief that children need to know deep down that someone’s got their back, and a desire to help family-adults be that someone for their kids.

Kai’s approach to parenting is to nurture trusting relationships with kids. She knows how it feels to make mistakes as a mom and shares compassion and practical parenting strategies. She’s not afraid to set boundaries and say the hard things with kids, and models what it sounds like to be authentic and authoritative during everyday moments.

Kai brings a joyful spirit to communities and welcomes families into warm learning experiences.

"Kai is a skilled facilitator. She brought together 12 mamas and created a space for people to feel comfortable and vulnerable.”
